COI Tracking

Contracts Connected vs TrustLayer (2026)

TrustLayer tracks insurance and vendor documents across many industries. Contracts Connected runs the contract and every document a vendor owes on a construction job. Here is where each one fits.

In one paragraph

Contracts Connected is the better fit when the certificate of insurance is one of several documents tied to a subcontract; TrustLayer is the better fit when you need insurance and vendor document tracking on its own, across many vendors and industries.

TL;DR. TrustLayer is a third-party risk platform that collects and reads certificates of insurance and other vendor documents, for construction and several other industries. Contracts Connected is built only for construction: it sends the subcontract, collects every document the vendor owes against it, and shows who can mobilize and who can be paid. Pick TrustLayer if the certificate is the job; pick Contracts Connected if the certificate is one line on a contract package.

Every fact about TrustLayer below comes from TrustLayer’s own website and help center, read on October 13, 2026. Contracts Connected is our product. We say where TrustLayer is the better choice, and we hold our own product to the same standard.

Where TrustLayer is the better pick

  • You only need insurance tracking. If the certificate is the only document you chase, a certificate-first tool is a smaller purchase than a contract system.
  • You track vendors outside construction. TrustLayer serves real estate, retail, lending and more, so one team can run every vendor through one tool.
  • You want to start free. The Starter plan is free up to 50 vendors.
  • You want Procore to stay the record. TrustLayer’s Procore integration writes compliance status back to Procore’s company insurance records.

Where Contracts Connected is the better pick

  • The certificate belongs to a contract. In Contracts Connected the insurance requirement comes from the project, the certificate is tied to the vendor’s subcontract, and an expired COI keeps that vendor from being cleared to mobilize.
  • You collect more than insurance. Lien waivers with every pay application and weekly certified payroll on prevailing wage jobs live in the same vendor file as the COI.
  • You send the contract too. Contracts are built on your own templates with the project’s data entered once, routed through your approvals, sent as one package and signed inside. E-signatures are built in. No separate signing app.
  • You want the chasing done for you. On the Done for you level, your AI agent emails vendors from its own address, asks for what’s missing or expiring and files what comes back.

What they share

Both read the certificate against a requirement instead of only watching the expiration date. Both remind vendors automatically. Both work alongside Procore rather than replacing it. If you’re comparing the wider field of certificate tools, our COI tracking software guide covers eight of them.

How we compared

We read TrustLayer’s home page, plans page and Procore integration article on October 13, 2026, and recorded what each says about documents, AI, integrations and pricing. Where TrustLayer’s site didn’t mention a feature, we wrote “not found on their site” rather than claiming it doesn’t exist. We didn’t use review sites or other vendors’ comparison pages. Our co-founder ran a large federal general contracting firm for 15 years, about 100,000 documents a year.
